| Facel's ill-fated attempt at an all-French sportscar was let
down by its engine. It is nevertheless one of the prettiest cars of its era.
Launched in 1959, early cars had stacked headlamps (like the HK500), flush door handles,
and simple dashboards. The second "F2" version, on which Facel claimed to
have resolved the mechanical problems, was launched in 1961. Its styling was updated to
feature the same Marchal covered headlamps as used on the Facel II, more conventional door
handles, and the familiar wood-effect painted dashboard used in the V8 cars.
Both the early and F2 Facellias were advertised in three body styles: cabriolet, 2+2
coupé, and 4-seat coupé - all with the same chassis and the same overall length and
width.
This particular car was used almost every day by a person in the motor trade; rumour
has it that it belonged to Joan Collins! |
