| The last car produced by Facel was a development of their
small model, the Facellia. Power was increased by fitting the Austin Healey six-cylinder
unit from BMC. Only about 30 of these were built before the company closed down due to
financial failure, but with their increased performance, enhanced styling and excellent
handling derived from the Facellia model this impressive automobile is regarded as the
ultimate Facel Vega product. Visually very similar to the Facellia and Facel 3, the
Facel 6 had the same wheelbase but a fractionally greater overall length.
The car on view is a 1964 convertible - rarest of the body styles - restored completely by
John Barton in 1996. John was approached by Neil Lawson-Baker to discuss a suitable
vehicle for the most ambitious motor rally since 1912 - AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS
- in the millennium year. They decided the Facel 6 was the car for this great challenge;
London - Peking - Anchorage - Alaska - New York - Casablanca - London. Obviously not for
the faint-hearted but Neil is a man with a mission.
Modifications to the car are extensive. Forged suspension, custom fuel tank, aluminium
head, roll-cage and louvred bonnet are just a few of the special preparations needed for
the event. To break himself in for this marathon rally Neil entered the car in the 1999
10th Anniversary Monte Carlo Challenge. |
