| The most well-known Facel, the HK500 was radically
redesigned in 1961 as the Facel II. A blue example was originally delivered to Rob Walker,
racing driver and team owner for whom Stirling Moss raced. He specified the car with a
short rear-axle ratio, and steel disc wheels, possibly influenced by another of his
drivers, Maurice Trintignant, who broke 17 spokes on another of his cars, a wire-wheeled
HK500, during only one lap of the Nurburgring! Rob Walker kept the car for four years,
selling it in 1966 - but retaining his famed ROB 2 registration. The car then disappeared,
resurfacing in the early '80s in a vandalised condition. In 1986 it was acquired by Top
Gear presenter and Grand Prix commentator Bob Constanduros who over the next 12 years has
had the car carefully restored, firstly with Nigel Cooper, and latterly with Ian Webb. |
